Core setup (2 steps)

Install the extension, then the script. After that, download buttons appear on YouTube pages.

  1. 1

Install the extension: search and install "Tampermonkey" from your browser extension store.

  2. 2

Install the script: find the "YouTube tools" script, click "Install this script," and confirm adding it to Tampermonkey.

Download flow

Click the buttons to finish the download.

  1. 1

Open any YouTube video; new buttons from the script appear under the video.

  2. 2

Click the MP4 button and pick a resolution (e.g., 720p) from the dropdown.

  3. 3

Click download to start. Progress may pause around 2%—wait and it continues.

  4. 4

When finished, if pop-ups are blocked, click "Allow" in the address bar, then choose a save location.

Quick FAQ

  • A brief stall at ~2% is normal—wait and it resumes.
  • If no save dialog appears, allow pop-ups and try again.

Troubleshooting

No download buttons under the YouTube video

  1. Chrome > Extensions > Manage extensions > find Tampermonkey > Details.
  2. Enable “Allow this site to run scripts” (or user scripts).
  3. Restart the browser and reopen the YouTube page.

No save dialog after download finishes

  1. When done, the address bar may show “Enable pop-ups on YouTube to automatically download the video.” Click Allow.
  2. If missed, open Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects, and allow youtube.com.

Chrome pop-up permission
